Leland Cogan, William Schmidt and Richard Houang will be presenting a paper on the development of 8+1 Science at the 2012 annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), Vancouver. Session: Tue, Apr 17 – 8:15am – 10:15am. Paper titled ‘The Quest for a Coherent K-8 Science Curriculum: Toward a Scientifically Literate Population.’

Did you know that results from the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress show only 34 percent of fourth-graders and 21 percent of 12th-graders were proficient in their science knowledge. Internationally, U.S. students ranked a mediocre 23rd in their science knowledge among countries studied by the Program for International Student Assessment. Michigan State University presents a short film, 8+1 Science, which explains the development of a new framework for science education. The film is produced by The Center for Curriculum Studies at MSU and Great Life Productions.
